For twenty or thirty years, Nathan and Marilyn Steffen, of Elgin, Illinois congregation, occasionally journeyed up to the hills and valleys of south west Wisconsin. They prayed that if it was the Lord's will, they could find a little get-a-way place for renewal, quietness and rest. Doors seemed closed until six years ago the Lord opened up the way for them to purchase wooded land on a high ridge to build a home. In meeting with people of the area the Lord increased their concern for spiritual welfare and their own responsibility for sharing the truth of God's Word with them. This vision of having Apostolic Christian Church services in this area was presented to the Elder Body during th summer conference of 2009. The Elder Body gave the oversight, of this endeavor, to the Mission Committee. They then began to build their home with a Great Room in the front for Church Services. The Mission Committee provided Bibles, Zion's Harps, Hymns of Zion, Egermeiers Bible Story books as well as folding chairs and tables for lunch. Occasionally Brethren for Minnesota and Illinois churches, while vacationing or meeting with families for Christmas or reunions have called and made arrangements for services. Some of the families have brought ministering brothers with them, other times ministers from Elgin of Belvidere have served. Attendance have varied between eleven and thirty eight. Brethren, passing through during the week, have been welcomed and appreciated. Their address is; N2816 Overgaard Road - Mauston, WI 53948. Their phone number is 1.608.462.4344.
The Steffens believe that God will move the hearts if younger brethren, to locate in this area and carry on the work. Mauston is located on interstate 90-94. It is 25 miles NW of Wisconsin Dells and halfway between our Minneapolis and Elgin churches. Mauston is a town of 4500 people with new schools, library, hospital and is the Juneau County seat. There is grain and dairy farming in this area.
